1. A group of islands in the Malay Archipelago.

     The Sunda Islands are divided into two groups, the Greater Sunda Islands — viz., Sumatra, and Java, with their dependencies; and the Lesser Sunda Islands, comprising all that lie E. of Java, Timor being the chief.
