From sviso (Swiss person) +‎ lando (land), calque of English Switzerland.

Corresponds with several other West Germanic languages, including Afrikaans Switserland, Dutch Zwitserland, Scots Swisserland, West Frisian Switserlân, as well as a number of non-European languages, including Bengali সুইজারল্যান্ড (śuijarolênḍ), Hindi स्विट्ज़रलैण्ड (sviṭzarlaiṇḍ), Malay Switzerland, Thai สวิตเซอร์แลนด์ (sà-wít-səə-lɛɛn).
