Etymology

@Svartava The Old Hindi term was probably obtained from page 203 of {{R:hi:Misra}} as a transliteration, and the details regarding it can be mentioned in the entry for it.

However, the more important matter here is that Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀡𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀺𑀕 (*ṇattiga) was apparently derived from replacing -𑀅 (-a) with -𑀕 (-ga) in Maharastri Prakrit 𑀡𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀺𑀅 (ṇattia) to make it Sauraseni. Since we agreed not to do this anymore at Talk:𑀤𑀲𑀫, perhaps it should be replaced with Prakrit 𑀡𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀺𑀅 (ṇattia). Since all it says is “Pkts. ṇattia-“ in {{R:hi:Misra}} and “M. ṇattia = naptṛka” in §55 in {{R:inc:Pischel}}, the Sauraseni lect cannot be verified. Kutchkutch (talk) 14:45, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

@Kutchkutch That is my inclination as well, and have always done so in recent times. The only thing is I couldn't access {{R:hi:Misra}} as it is not on Internet Archive, so I pinged you on it. This is a personal opinion, but apart from rare cases like लोग and मगर, I find the -a/-ya ending Prakrit terms more conveying of the inheritance path leading to the NIA term.
