Turner's comparative IA dictionary gives this Assamese term to more *vilagga rather than viagga. Now, although it makes sense structurally that *viaggala'a is the reconstructed form of this Marathi term, but I am just putting it out here... that metathesis before or during the prakritic stage could have led to the western dialects of Sauraseni and Maharashtri realizing original *vilagga as *viggala > *veggala instead. This explains why they are so semantically similar, with coordinate terms like: Mr. āgḷā ("strange") <=> H. alag ("different"); while Mr. vegḷā ("different") <=> bilag ("separate"), bilgāv ("separation").
