Etymology

Orpheus states that it is "Perhaps root-cognate to ὀρφανός "orphan"." Indeed we have an Orbona godess in Latin.

Personally (without any source but with best guess) I'd link it with ὀρφνός "somber, dark". It would link it with the underworld (as dark place) and semantically with Krishna ("dark god")
