It got loaned into Japanese. It’s used by a lot of Okinawans even if they don’t speak Uchinaaguchi (which most don’t anymore, sadly). — Coastaline (talk) 01:27, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Okinawan はいさい derivation, usage edit

I noticed that you recently added the etymology. I note that Japanese speakers will sometimes use おはようございます (ohayō gozaimasu) as a greeting when seeing someone for the first time that day, even if it's not actually morning. I wonder if there is any parallel usage in Okinawan, which might additionally prompt a shift from 早さやー (hēsayā) used strictly as good morning to usage more as a general greeting?
