- @Justinrleung: Its pronunciation in 集韻 was 於刀切. I guess it should have a modern first-toned reflex in Cantonese. If this character is only encountered when reading Written Standard Chinese (i.e. not a native Cantonese morpheme) then I'll be more suspicious. Dokurrat (talk) 00:42, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

- @Justinrleung: Alright, thanks. And maybe it's not due to 熬. I just found 鏖, which was also 於刀切, has a "ngou4" pronunciation. So I guess I have some confidence towards these forth-toned pronunciations. Dokurrat (talk) 01:09, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
