Pronunciation edit

Yanks often pronounce the "ss" unvoiced, going by the spelling and the unvoiced "s" in Australia. Not the proper (in the sense of "own") pronunciation, but that doesn't stop us. -dmh 07:48, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I've heard this. By "yank" you mean any American, right? DAVilla 19:13, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Usage Notes edit

"The exception seems to be sporting chants, such as “Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!” and “Come on, Aussie, come on!”, which appear to apply this usage."

This isn't an exception, The chant is referring to the people not Australia the country. This is a common misconception as most National sporting teams get cheered by the country "America, America" , "China, China" , etc

Also as a note the more common cheer is: Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi! Oi! Oi!, Aussie, Oi!, Aussie, Oi!, Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi! Oi! Oi!
