Talk:Laotian

This page is incorrect. The proper term for persons from Laos; is Lao, not Laotian. This is also true for Lao culture, Lao food, etc.
- Both are correct. If you prefer to use Lao exclusively, that’s your right. Lots of people would rather say Laotian. —Stephen 00:24, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Laos, Lao and Laotian terms should be used as follows: I come from Laos. I speak Lao and I am Laotian. Lots of people use Lao & Laotian exchangeably. Eventhough, it is acceptable but it's incorrect. Anything's related to people then the word Laotian should be used such as Laotian culture, Laotian food, Laotian restaurant.
- "Laotian" is a word. It's been in use for a long time. I don't use it myself. I use "Lao" as it seems to be preferred in Laos and by Laotians, not because the other word is incorrect or not "proper". Eventhough is not a word however. — hippietrail (talk) 02:49, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
