Talk:Mendip Hills

Etymology

edit

'Mendip' savours as being a substrate from a Pre-Celtic form akin to Basque MENDI (mountain) and Breton/Cornish MENYDH or Middle Unified Cornish MENETH (mountain or mount); initially from √*MEN (to jut out).
