Any medical word ending in -osis refers to a metabolic process, not necessarily related to a blood condition. Any word ending in -emia refers to a blood condition, not necessarily related to a metabolic process. Acidosis is a metabolic process which will lead to acidemia if there is no concurrent process (e.g., an alkylosis) driving the blood pH in the other direction. It is wrong to define acidosis as an abnormally high blood acidity; that is acidemia. There are several pairs of illnesses, one an alkylosis and one an acidosis, which frequently occur together and which result in a normal blood pH. Czechstudent (talk) 18:26, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
