Talk:all roads lead to Rome

Etymology

From researching this, it appears to not be a classical proverb, but rather of medieval origin, in a different form. I’ve given what references I can – note that the page of translations (All roads lead to Rome web page by Paul Burns) are translations of the modern English form, and makes no pretense of scholarship (these are not earlier forms, and there are no references).

Note especially that the putative Latin form omnes viae Romam ducunt appears to be a translation from the modern English form, and does not appear to be the original form, as the earlier wordings make clear. Further references welcome!
