Problem with "adjective" definition

The first definition reads as follows:

"In the manner of and/or resembling an animal; Synonym: animal-like".

But "in the manner of" is an adverbial phrase and not an adjectival phrase.

("Resembling an animal" is perfectly adjectival, of course.)

If one definition had read "with the manner of an animal", that would be perfectly acceptable.

The word "in", however, is inappropriate here.
