Etymology

If these terms were inherited from a Vulgar Latin "appetesco", wouldn't they be "apadecer"? The t should have softened, unless the Vulgar Latin term became "appettesco". It seems more likely that this is borrowed from Classical Latin appeto, with an irregularly derived ending. Also worth noting that FEW lists an Old Provencal "apedir", which seems to argue against the "appettesco" hypothesis. Simplificationalizer (talk) 01:40, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
