Talk:as a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly

Really?

I have always misunderstood this if that's what it meant. I thought the idea was the vomiting dog at first tried to pretend that they hadn't made such a mess, but, since no one was cleaning it up for them, they eventually came back to acknowledge what they'd done. It seems the unwritten implication is that the dog will eat what it earlier threw up, and perhaps this eluded me and the person who I'd heard use this expression before. Oh well. I will leave this here as a reminder to look for more examples of this phrase in use, and to see if anyone made the same mistake. Soap 06:19, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
