This word is often pronounced incorrectly in English slang to mean "a lot". An example of this misspelling is "boo koo" or "buckoo."

I don't think the US, southern tag belongs there. US, sure. And the earliest usage in American English probably did come from Louisiana French.

However, most modern U.S. usage derives from French Indo-China, and the American Army and Marines and the like who fought in Vietnam. 69.57.88.206 14:21, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
