Etymology edit

Isn't the vulgar use of this from the curse "god's blood" or something to that effect? Or is that a folk etymology? If so, it should have a separate etymology header I think. WurdSnatcher (talk)

I've read or heard somewhere that it's originally a contraction of "by Our Lady" (i.e. the Mother of God), but that as well may be mere folk etymology.
