Talk:boot camp

  1. Is this limited to the US, or is it used more widely (in any of its senses)?
  2. Is the original military sense really limited to the Navy and Marines?

Within the US, it applies to Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines (not sure about Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, FBI, CIA, NSA, or Secret Service.) Police have "Police Academy" which is somewhere between boot camp and officer's Academy. --Connel MacKenzie 07:27, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)
The term is widely understood in the UK, but I'm not sure whether it is used by Her Majesty's Forces etc. Dbfirs 18:33, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
