Firearm means "fire weapon" but uses the word "arm" which in english does not usually conveys the "eapon" meaning... How come?

Arms, armament and armed all pertain to weaponry also. I am not certain of the etymology of "firearm," but "arm" is closely related to "weapon". - TheDaveRoss 19:48, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Note that the entry for "arm" (Sect. 1.4.1) defines the word as a noun meaning weapon.Terry Thorgaard (talk) 22:05, 20 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
