Interestingly, 'brand' in Dutch means exactly the same thing as 'fire' in English. Might this have something to do with its etymology? MaximusBrood 09:14, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hello. In french , a "brandon" is (cf Larousse 6 vol, I/6, p.845) a torch made of twisted straw, used either to set a pyre on fire or as a symbol (to warn that a crop is under juridic seizure...). It may also be a kind of Greek fire...And of yore, on the first Sunday of Lent ( Dimanche des Brandons) , popular dances were performed with torches Arapaima 10:05, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
