The adjectival sense here seems to me to be just an attributive use of the noun—thoughts, anyone? Jjamesryan (talk | contribs) 16:34, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Noun meaning popcorn kernel that failed to pop

edit

When I was growing up in the US Pacific Northwest, everyone I knew called kernels of popcorn that had failed to pop "grannies." I gather from my reading on the Web that the term "old maid" might be more common than "granny," though I'd never heard it before. At any rate, "An unpopped kernel in a batch of popped popcorn kernels" is already a listed definition in Wiktionary's entry for "old maid," and I thought it would be useful to add one to the entry for "granny" as well — if someone can come up with sufficient documentary support for that usage.
