Hazing is also a horse/cattle term, a means of moving one or more herd animals around by making a noise that stimulates the animal to move away from one. It can be slapping one's side with a hand or rope, but in any case, it's something that doesn't excite the animal, just makes it feel like moving. You can use it to get a cow across the street, or cut a horse out of a remuda.
