Removing personal speculation...

...that this is possibly related to Korean 고양이 (goyang-i). Phonetically similar, as well as some odd resemblance from the northern "kuting" with 고냉이 (gonaeng-i). SpinachMaid (talk) 05:07, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
