Perhaps Proto Celtic Mapo is a form of 'hepo' that developed relating kinship to a matriarch, or a combination from 'from/of me', and Mac/Ui experienced a change due to a shift in dialect which created the differences between P-Celtic languages and Q-Celtic languages. This seems more likely than the widespread adoption of an additional word for son (soHnos), or the replacement of (soHnos) with an indigenous word for son as Indo European Celtic cultures spread.
