RfV for the third sense of “By extension of (1), to experience the noise of asteroids, comets or meteors coming through the upper atmosphere. (sonic boom)”; sense 1 is “To make a loud noise.” The derivation would seem intuitive (though would still be dubitable) were sense 1 “To experience a loud noise.” or were sense 3 “(of a comet, asteroid, or meteor) Cause a sonic boom by entering the upper atmosphere.”, but that’s not how they’re written at the moment.
