My understanding of this word is that it is a combination of 'may' and 'happen'. 'Mayhap' is an archaic English word but 'Mayhaps' is incorrect. — This unsigned comment was added by Dallian (talk • contribs) at 00:48-00:51, 4 November 2006.

Surely this word refers to the future, so isn't the example usage incorrect?
- No, it is not constrained to the future. It can refer just as well to the present or the past. —Stephen 09:26, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
