Digital application or service edit

The word “messenger” is often used in digital platforms as a way to say “messaging service”, most often accompanied by a brand name, e.g. “MSN Messenger”, “Yahoo Messenger”, “Facebook Messenger” (branded as “Messenger” alone), etc. A recent Wired article is titled “YouTube’s New Messenger Means You’ll Never Have to Leave YouTube”; as it isn’t sure the word here is used as the actual name of the feature it may be used as a common noun.
