Can we confirm which meaning of "snipe" is intended for the etymology?

Of course, the original XKCD comic seems to imply it is the verb "snipe" as in to shoot with a rifle, however it could also be "snipe" as in to send someone on a wild goose chase for a nonexistent thing; in this case, the answer of the difficult or interesting problem presented to them. I personally think the first meaning makes more sense but I would like others' opinions. GiggyMantis (talk) 01:27, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
