not just drunk

the original form of this page, saying it was eye dialect, may be correct after all, in origin. this query shows plenty of hits that are not related to alcohol consumption. A lot of the uses seem to be in the speech of uneducated southern blacks in the late 1800s. However, it makes me wonder if it was a literary invention, rather than something people commonly said.
