Parody and satire

I deleted 'A satire" from the definition, because parody and satire, though related and often used in conjunction with each other, are not exactly the same thing. Satire ridicules something in the real world (e.g., politics); parody uses ridiculae or irony in ridiculing a text or other work or performance. See Linda Hutcheon, A Theory of Parody.
