My idea would be that it is more related to German 'schlaff' (floppy, limb) and 'schlapp' (deflated, without drive). So many Yiddish words have old German roots, that I would think it was brought over to the Pale by the German Jews when they migrated east. Both adjectives are used mostly negatively, unless you are in a scientific lab. 58.174.224.4 03:45, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
