Definition of "screeching brakes" (and a a must-read physics lesson)

edit

The original informal definition was "To travel very fast, as if making the sounds of brakes being released." Releasing brakes means to take your foot off. I'm not sure I have the best definition, but that screeching sound occurs when cars accelerate, decelerate, or go around a corner. I originally wrote:

"To travel very fast, as if making the sounds of brakes when a car is accelerating."

To a physics teacher like me, all are forms of acceleration (deceleration is simply negative acceleration.) As I write this, it just occurred to me that all are associated with a person driving too fast. I will go back and see if I can explain in a way that does not require a physics lecture (the external link is essential reading.)--Guy vandegrift (talk) 10:45, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
