Question

If I had a half brother born out of wedlock, and that brother had a half brother which was not my half brother. Would that person be referred to as a step-brother, a quarter brother, or just my half brother's half brother?

Unless your common parent married that boy’s parent, then you would not be related at all. He would just be your half brother’s half brother. —Stephen 17:30, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Alternate definitions

If my wife's first husband had a son named Junior from a previous marriage, that son would be her stepson. After he died, we married and had a daughter named Bridget. My wife is Junior's stepmother and Bridget's mother, so that means Bridget is Junior's stepsister. That means in turn Juniour should be the stepbrother of Bridget. I added a second definition that corresponds to this usage of the word stepbrother.
