Ilocano dialects

@Yivan000 I gotta say, I find the label "Amianan" and "Abagatan" dialects to be very narrow. Same goes to Lowland-Highland, and Western-Cordillera-Eastern Ilocano labels. I usually hear /ɯ/ by some people in Ilocos Norte as well as in Abra. In Ilocos Sur, I also hear /e/ by some speakers. There are cases where I also hear /ɛ/, /ə/, /ɨ/, and occasionally even /ɪ/ in words like teppang, tengnga, isem, ulimek, kdpy. Therefore, I would like to get rid of the Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur tags or the Amianan-Abagatan tags. Amianero (talk) 07:23, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

@Amianero Your call. I did not create them, they were already present when I started editing.

Feel free to edit Module:labels/data/lang/ilo (this is the module containing the labels used for various templates and categories for Ilocano).

Note though that there definitely is a difference between lowland (Ilocandia) Ilocano and highland (Cordillera) Ilocano. — 🍕 Yivan000 ^view_talk 08:22, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

There are, but which part of the Highland and which part of the Lowland? Abra may be a part of Cordillera, but it will never be a part of La Montañosa. Do you think Ilocandia is the only lowland? What about the Cagayan Valley? Pangasinan? Limiting it to Highland (Cordillera, which in my pov doesn't even include Abra) and Lowland (Ilocandia) is narrow. @Amianero I haven't really researched the related literature with regards to the linguistic boundaries between the two. I know that there is a vague boundary, but it's very muddy.

Feel free to edit that module (and by extension, organize Category:Regional Ilocano) to a better organization scheme.

I am only familiar with the Baguio (& a bit of Sabangan) variety of Ilocano, so I cannot comment on the others. — 🍕 Yivan000 ^view_talk 08:54, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
