Usage edit
This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections and on talk pages to format quotations from John Bouvier's work A Law Dictionary, Adapted to the Constitution and Laws of the United States of America (1st edition, 1839, 2 volumes). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at Google Books and the Internet Archive:
- Volume I (A–K).
- Volume II (L–Z and A Dictionary of the Norman or Old French Language; archived at the Internet Archive).
Parameters edit
The template takes the following parameters:
|volume=– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the entry is specified the template can determine the volume number quoted from. If quoting from the preface in volume I or A Dictionary of the Norman or Old French Language in volume II, use this parameter to specify the volume number in uppercase Roman numerals, either|volume=Ior|volume=II.|1=,|chapter=, or|entry=–- If quoting from the preface, specify
|chapter=Preface. - Otherwise, specify the entry or headword in the work to be quoted from. If this parameter is omitted, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry. By default, the template capitalizes the value assigned to the parameter. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, specify
|noformat=1or|noformat=yes.
- If quoting from the preface, specify
|column=or|columns=– the column number(s) quoted from, either|column=1or|column=2. If quoting from both columns, either omit this parameter or separate the column numbers with an en dash, like this:|columns=1–2.|2=or|page=, or|pages=– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from in Arabic or lowercase Roman numerals, as the case may be. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11or|pages=v–vi. - You must also use
|pageref=to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

- This parameter must be specified to have the template link to an online version of the work.
|3=,|text=, or|passage=– a passage quoted from the work.|nodot=– by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use|nodot=1or|nodot=yes.
