Documentation for Template:R:Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. [edit]
This page contains usage information, categories, interwiki links and other content describing the template.

Usage edit

The template {{R:Webster's Collegiate Dictionary}} may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections, and on talk pages, for citing the following editions of Webster's Collegiate Dictionary:

  • 1st edition (1898) – this is the default if no year is specified.
  • 7th edition (1963; 1967 printing).
  • 8th edition (1973; 1974 printing).

Parameters edit

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |entry= – the entry in the Dictionary to be cited. If this parameter is omitted, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.
  • |year= – by default, the template creates a citation to the 1st edition (1898) of the Dictionary. To cite the 7th or 8th edition instead, use one of the following:
    • |year=1967 – for the 7th edition (1963; 1967 printing).
    • |year=1974 – for the 8th edition (1973; 1974 printing).
This parameter should be omitted if the shortcuts {{R:Webster NCD 1967}} or {{R:Webster NCD 1974}} are used.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages= – the page number(s) of the Dictionary on which the entry appears. Use |pages= if indicating a range of pages, and separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
  • |3= or |column=, or |columns= – the column number(s) of the Dictionary on which the entry appears. Use |columns= if indicating a range of columns, and separate the first and last column numbers of the range with an en dash.
  • |4= or |passage= – a passage quoted from the webpage.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.
