Usage

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Anthony Trollope's work Barchester Towers (1st edition, 1857, 3 volumes; copyright edition, 1859, 2 volumes); volumes II and III of the 1st edition are not currently available online. It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at Google Books:

1st edition (1857): Volume I (archived at the Internet Archive). Volume II (not currently available online). Volume III (not currently available online).

Copyright edition (1859): Volume I (archived at the Internet Archive). Volume II (archived at the Internet Archive).

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |edition= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 1st edition (1857), specify |edition=1857. If the parameter is not stated, the template defaults to the copyright edition (1859).
• |1= or |volume= – mandatory: the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals; for the 1st edition, either |volume=I, |volume=II, or |volume=III, and for the copyright edition, either |volume=I or |volume=II.
• |2= or |chapter= – the name of the chapter quoted from.
• |3= or |page=; or |pages= – mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
  • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

This parameter must be specified for the template to link to an online version of the work.

• |4=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage quoted from the work.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
