Template:U:en:HM and HMG

  • Similarly, when HMG is used in the possessive (to mean "His/Her Majesty's Government's"), it is written HMG, not HMG's.
  • 2018 June 11, HM Government, “HMG personnel security controls”, in www.gov.uk[2], London, archived from the original on 2021-10-26:
    HMG personnel security controls... This booklet describes the government's personnel security...
  • HM is used both to save space and—especially in uses difficult to change, like signage—to avoid having to change it in the event of the death of a monarch changing His Majesty's to Her Majesty's or vice versa.
  • 2021 October 30 (last accessed), HM Passport Office, “HM Passport Office”, in www.gov.uk[3], London, archived from the original on 2021-10-27:
    HM Passport Office is the sole issuer of UK passports and responsible for civil registration services through the General Register Office.

A usage note for entries using the prefixes HM and HMG, noting that whether the acronym expands to mean "His/Her Majesty" or "His/Her Majesty's)", it is still spelt HM or HMG, and not HM's or HMG's.

How to use edit

In entries with existing Usage notes, it should be included by adding a new line like this at the appropriate point:

{{U:en:HM and HMG}}

An initial asterisk should not be included. If there is a single preexisting usage note not bulleted with an asterisk, it should be bulleted at the same time this template is added so the old and new usage notes meld together properly.

In entries without existing Usage notes, it should be included by adding a new section like this at the appropriate point:

====Usage notes====
{{U:en:HM and HMG}}

Then, in either case, if the entry does not have a preexisting References section, add (at the bottom of the English language section, but before any categories):

===References===
<references/>

If the entry already includes references, no change is needed; it will pick up the references from this template automatically.
