This template is used when needing to combine two vowels in Amharic comform its rules of elision. It has three parameters:

• |1= The initial syllable
• |2= The succeeding vowel
• |w= (optional) Used to triggers the elisions [o-o > owo; o-a > owa; u-a > uwa] rather than [o-o > o; o-a > wa; u-a > wa])

Thus:

• The code {{am-vmerge|ሃ|ኣ}} (ha|a) yields ሃ (ha).
• The code {{am-vmerge|ሎ|ኦ}} (lo|o) yields ሎ (lo).
• The code {{am-vmerge|ሎ|ኦ|w=1}} (lo|o) yields ሎዎ (lowo)

When no elision can happen, no text is generated.
