From Proto-Nuristani *pāršã́ta (place of the rock), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *parš-, from Proto-Indo-European *pels-.[1] Likely cognate with Ashkun paṣú (mountainslope, side), Kamkata-viri paṣǘ, paṣí (mountainslope, side), Sanskrit पाषाण (pāṣāṇa), पाषी (pāṣī), Pashto پرښه (parša), Ancient Greek πέλλα (pélla, stone).
