This page aims to define the details of the layout of Lithuanian word entries on English Wiktionary. It is a part of the broader policy of Wiktionary language considerations and is intended to complement Criteria for inclusion and Entry layout policies. Besides the latter policy, the layout of Lithuanian language entries is based on the practical principles already in use on Wiktionary as the standard form.

A Lithuanian language entry should always begin with the indication of the language, which is done by including a level 2 header:

Etymology edit

Etymology header is a level 3 header and is only included in lemma entries (for lemmas in Lithuanian see below). If present, it should be the first header in the section. It follows general rules of Etymology policy.

Pronunciation edit

This header is a level 3 header and is obligatory to all Lithuanian entries. It must include IPA transcription in square brackets ([]). It might as well include an audio file in which the entry is being pronounced.

Transcription rules are described in articles Lithuanian phonology (full) and Help:IPA for Lithuanian (general outline). For the precision, it is recommended to use the article.

Part of Speech edit

The following header (level 3 should be named in accordance with the part of speech that the entry belongs to. In English Wiktionary, parts of speech that are attributed to Lithuanian are not the same as in traditional Lithuanian grammars: adjective (būdvardis), adverb (prieveiksmis), conjunction (jungtukas), interjection (jaustukas and ištiktukas), noun (daiktavardis), numeral (skaitvardis), participle (dalyvis), particle (dalelytė), preposition (prielinksnis), pronoun (įvardis). It is important to notice that jaustukas and ištiktukas are not considered separate parts of speech, but can be (and should be) mentioned in the definition. Participle, while being a verb form, is considered a separate part of speech. Pages describing noun phrases, morphemes (prefix and suffix), idioms or proverbs should have these names in the Part of Speech header.

Adjective edit

The lemma of a Lithuanian adjective is in its non-pronomial positive masculine singular nominative form. All other forms are non-lemmas.

* Templates without stress pattern indications should not be used. For now, they are included because some stress-specific templates are not present. They need to be created as soon as possible.
