Balinese is a Malayo-Polynesian language spoken by 3.3 million people (as of 2000) on the Indonesian island of Bali as well as Northern Nusa Penida, Western Lombok, Eastern Java, Southern Sumatra, and Sulawesi.

A Balinese entry should follow the same general principles as all other Wiktionary entries do, as outlined at Wiktionary:Entry layout. The most important sections are listed below.

Guidelines

• Wiktionary may be used by learners who are not proficient in Balinese.
• Only entries that fulfill the criteria for inclusion can be created.
• Lemma: The lemma form in Balinese is the ᬓ᭄ᬭᬸᬦᬮᬶᬗ᭄ᬕ (kruna lingga, “stem word”), ᬓ᭄ᬭᬸᬦᬢᬶᬭᭀᬦ᭄ (kruna tiron, “affixed word”), and ᬓ᭄ᬭᬸᬦᬲᬢ᭄ᬫ (kruna satma, “compound word”) written in Balinese script based on the the latest spelling standard. However, entry in Latin script is acceptable.
• Spelling: In most cases, the latest spelling standard used to determine which variant spelling to place a word’s definition at.
• Pronunciation: The pronunciation may be entered in both phonemic (using / /) and phonetic form (using [ ]).
