This section is included only for completeness; this has been resolved by Wiktionary:Votes/2006-12/form-of style. The conclusion was to use bold by default (but this is overrideable by user CSS).

Please enter * bold ~~~~, * italics ~~~~, * “quotation marks” ~~~~, * plain ~~~~, or the like on the next blank line to indicate your preference for how mentioned terms in definition lines (aside from mentioned terms in "form of" templates) should be formatted.
