Removing Wikisaurus-link template edit

  • Voting on: Performing two actions:
    • Removing from WT:ELE the following text:
      • {{Wikisaurus-link|money}} The link to a Wikisaurus entry can now be made by using the Template {{Wikisaurus-link|headword}}. This throws up a banner with a link to the Wikisaurus entry. For example, {{Wikisaurus-link|money}}

    • Deleting the Wikisaurus-link template while keeping its talk page for the sake of documentation.
  • Justification:
    • The text proposed here for removal was addeded to WT:ELE without a vote in this edit in May 2006.
    • The template creates a right-floating box with an icon, a box that resembles boxes linking to sister projects such as Wikipedia, Wikisource and Commons. However, Wikisaurus is not a sister project; it is a subproject and a namespace within Wiktionary. Wikisaurus is a lexicographical work tightly integrated into Wiktionary. It is part of Wiktionary located in a dedicated namespace for the sake of information storage convenience: having one place for collection of synonyms for each synonym-set.
    • The currently common way of linking to Wikisaurus is to add "See also [[Wikisaurus:headword]]" to synonyms section, to which readers normally come to look for synonyms.
    • The string "* See also [[Wikisaurus:cat]]" is short to type; "* {{Wikisaurus-link|cat}}" reduces the typing work insignificantly. The same is true of the alternative "* {{seeWikisaurus|cat}}". Instead of typing, the editor may choose to paste the link repeatedly for the whole synonym set.
    • The template's appearance is this:
Find this word in Wikisaurus

  • Note: When the text proposed for removal is removed from WT:ELE, hyperlinking from mainspace to Wikisaurus remains unregulated by WT:ELE, and is open to further adjustment.
  • Vote starts: 00:00, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
  • Vote ends: 24:00, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
