From Proto-Semitic *ʔaḫwat- (sister). Equivalent to 𒋀 (aḫum, brother) +‎ -𒀀𒌈 (-atum, feminine suffix). Cognate with Arabic أُخْت(ʾuḵt) and Biblical Hebrew אָחוֹת(ʔɔḥóṯ).
