1. (organic chemistry) Any monocyclic hydrocarbon, of general formula C_nH_n (where n is even), or C_nH_n+1 (where n is odd).

Usage notes

If n is greater than 6 (benzene) they are named [n]annulene e.g. [9]annulene.
