Etymology edit
From Common Turkic *aŋït (“wild duck”). Cognate with Turkish angut, etc. According to Eren, ultimately of onomatopoetic origin[1] and thus possibly related to Azerbaijani anqırmaq (“to yell, bawl, scream, etc.”).
