- (usually in the definite "artonhundratalet") The 1800s (eighteen hundreds), the years 1800 to 1899; almost the same period as nittonde seklet ("nineteenth century") which, however, was from year 1801 to 1900 (although a century in Swedish is used to be counted from a year 100x to a year 100x + 99 rather than from a year 100x + 1 to a year 100y).
