Etymology

edit

Probably from Portuguese boa noite rather than derived naturally in Macanese, since *bô is not used in regular Macanese speech.

Interjection

edit

-nôte

  1. good evening!

Usage notes

edit
  • In written Macanese, the hyphen is very commonly used between the two words in "good"-type phrases and interjections.
  • Despite the literal translation of the phrase, it does not mean "good night"; that is expressed using bôm-sôno.
