Etymology

edit

Supposedly from French baie, qu'appelle which roughly translates as "what's the name of that berry". This is very liably folk etymology, though—the more obvious derivation bake +‎ apple, influenced by bake in composite words, is suggested by the Oxford English Dictionary.

Noun

bakeapple (plural bakeapples)
